A content creator’s eerie walk through a crumbling hotel in the Eastern Cape has South Africa talking. YungEarn posted the TikTok video on 25 August 2026, captioned: “What happened here? It’s giving insidious vibes 😨”
The footage takes viewers inside what remains of a once-grand hotel in Port Alfred, a small coastal town in the Eastern Cape. Peeling walls, overgrown vegetation and hollow corridors tell the story of a building that has sat untouched for years. What makes it more unsettling is its age. YungEarn noted that the hotel had been standing for over 130 years before it was left to decay.
The mystery of the Kawi Angel
The building’s past took a darker turn in 1906, when workers allegedly uncovered a small metal box buried beneath the hotel. Inside was a statue that came to be known as the Kawi Angel. No photographs of it are known to exist, and its origins remain completely unknown. YungEarn noted the mystery in his video, saying, “To this day, there are no pictures of it, and no one knows where it actually came from.”

He described the scene with a mix of sadness and disbelief. “It’s sad to see such a huge hotel that is worth millions of rands, just left completely abandoned,” he said.
