Meet the 3 boys who topped list with best matric maths results

Mathematics was dominated by boys in this year's matric results. Three young men have made their schools and families proud by emerging as top achievers in maths.

Timothy Murphy from Rondebosch Boys’ High School in Cape Town was named the highest achiever in maths in the country. He achieved the top award at his school. According to TimesLive, the matriculant has also received recognition in other maths programmes and shared first place in the National Accounting Olympiad in 2018. He plans to pursue Actuarial Science at UCT.

Another Western Cape boy from from Outeniqua Hoerskool was named the second highest achiever in mathematics. Ivan Badenhorst will be studying engineering in Belgium. He said his hardest challenge this year was having to cope with his brother undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour.

Mukona Martin Ranzida from Mbilwi Secondary School in Limpopo was placed third. He said that the recipe to success was being able to manage heavy workload effectively. The young man wishes to continue studying mathematics at tertiary level. His advice to the class of 2020 is to aim high.
