Sjava turns 36: 5 Cool facts about the Mzansi musician on his birthday

Sjava is one of the many celebrity December babies. The South African musician and actor turns 36 on this day. He excitedly took to social media to announce his special occasion. Briefly.co.za takes a look at a few interesting facts about Sjava to celebrate his birthday.

1. Real name

Sjava was born Jabulani Hadebe on 2 December, 1984.

2. Early childhood

The media personality was born in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal to Thandi Nkabinde. Sjava has two older siblings, Sibusiso (his brother) and Sindy (his sister).

3. Early music career

Sjava started writing music at an early age. When he just 10 years old, Sjava wrote original songs for his all-boy isicathamiya group Abafana baseMpumalanga while in primary school.

He then took composition of music a step further in high school where he used to turn notes into songs then teach them to his classmates.

4. Early acting career

Sjava began his acting career in 2005. He secured a role on the drama series Zone 14, in which he starred for three consecutive seasons.

5. Debut album

Sjava signed to record label Ambitiouz Entertainment and released Isina Muva in 2016. His second studio album, Umqhele, was released in 2018 to critical acclaim.

Briefly.co.za had previously reported that singer and actor Sjava is a free man. The media personality was accused of rape by his ex girlfriend Lady Zamar, but it seems that the court has decided not to prosecute.

It was reported that the case was declined for prosecution two weeks ago. According to the publication, Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed this.

“On November 5, the case docket was withdrawn by the director of public prosecutions at court."

The Sowetan further reported that NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said that the state declined to prosecute because it believed the evidence did not support a successful prosecution.

In other Sjava news, it seems Sjava can't quite shake off the acting bug. The musician joined the star-studded cast of Uzalo. The BET Award winner plays the character of Jombigazi, a hitman linked to Nkunzi and Mageda.

The announcement was made by entertainment blogger Phil Mphela on his social media page. According to Mphela, Sjava is already on set filming.
