Matric results have been dominating the media as students prepare for their futures. The Western Cape had a big dip in its matric pass rate for the academic year of 2020. The province's pass rate dropped from 82.3% in 2019 to 79.9%.
On the good news side, the Western Cape delivered the top two candidates in mathematics, nationally, for the second year in a row. The province also achieved it's highest bachelor's pass rate ever.
Over 22 600 candidates achieved a bachelor's pass out of the over 51 600 learners who wrote the National Senior Certificate examinations in 2020.
IOL reported that Education MEC Debbie Schäfer said the decline in the pass rate is an understandable outcome. She noted that the Covid-19 pandemic had severely affected schooling not just in South Africa, but across the globe.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said he was proud of the matric class of 2020's achievement adding that the province's matrics managed a remarkable feat, according to a report by News24.
