Lebo Mathosa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka & Others to Be Honoured at SAPMAs

- Late Lebo Mathosa and other Mzansi music legends such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka will be honoured later this year at the first ever South African Popular Music Awards (SAPMAs)

- The SAPMAs will take place for the first time on 24 July and 31 July

Late musicians such as Lebo Mathosa, Jabu Khanyile and Nana Coyote, among others, will be honoured with posthumous awards at the first ever South African Popular Music Awards (SAPMAs).

The event is scheduled to take place in July this year. SAPMAs organisers have revealed that they will host two big main events.

A Night of Legends Gala Dinner will take place on 24 July and the second main event will be held at Sun Arena in Pretoria on 31 July, when all the category winners will be announced.

Legends such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Morris Roda and Ihashi Elimhophe, among many, will be honoured during the Gala Dinner on 24 July. Late music icons such as Boom Shaka's Lebo Mathosa and Jabu Khanyile will be celebrated during the dinner event.

TshisaLIVE reports that the SAPMA's head of communications, Mathawe Matsapola, explained that the awards are all about celebrating black excellence in the arts and entertainment scene and to also shine a light on the music that has been the soundtrack of South Africans over the past decade.

Briefly.co.za reported recently that Trevor Noah has once again been nominated in the NAACP Image Awards in the USA. The Daily Show host is nominated in the Entertainer of the Year category alongside Regina King and Tyler Perry.

The 52nd NAACP Image Awards will take place on 27 March. The nominees were announced on Instagram recently. According to All4Women, Trevor has in the past won two NAACP awards in his own name and a third award went to one of The Daily Show’s writers.

In other entertainment news, Briefly.co.za reported that Trevor Noah has been announced as the host of the 63rd annual Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, 24 November and revealed that the South African Emmy-award winning comedian will host the prestigious awards on 14 March, 2021.

The event was originally scheduled for 31 January but the Recording Academy postponed the ceremony to 14 March.

"We’re thrilled to welcome @TheDailyShow host, Emmy-winner, and GRAMMY-nominee @TrevorNoah as the host of the 63rd #GRAMMYs! We can’t think of a better person to serve as Master of Ceremonies for Music’s Biggest Night."
