- A couple who welcomed the birth of quintuplets spoke about how they have been coping with the development
- The wife, Funmilayo, said she never thought she would one day have to go through a multiple birth
- The woman's husband, Idowu, revealed they have not been able to pay their hospital bill since the delivery
A woman, Funmilayo, became a mother of 10 kids after giving birth to five children in 24 hours. Her husband, Idowu Oluwadara, said before they realised she was pregnant, the wife was already three months gone.
In a BBC News Yoruba interview, the father of the kids said when he heard that she was pregnant at a time they were not expecting any kids, he became confused.
Idowu stated that they could not seek the alternative to abort because that would be sinning against their God, who 'placed' the babies in her womb.
On her part, Funmilayo disclosed that when she had a scan, only three babies were visible. On the day of the delivery, things changed and the kids turned out to number five.
The medical doctor in charge, Afolabi Sikirullahi, confirmed her story, saying the parents had to go get extra clothes for the two more babies. Days after the delivery one of the babies sadly died, a situation that dampened the joy of the parents.
Idowu added that they ought to have left the hospital a long time ago but the inability to foot their medical bills kept them there.
The father went ahead to say feeding is even a problem, disclosing how they have been surviving on the food other people brought.

Briefly.co.za earlier reported that a Nigerian woman, Jummai Ibrahim Tsafe, from Kano state, who gave birth to 17 children, has said that she really does not mind having 10 more. In a BBC Pidgin interview, the 47-year-old woman said giving birth to children has always come with relative ease for her, adding that only one came through C-section.
Out of all the births she has had, Jummai was only at the hospital on two different occasions to deliver. The rest were delivered at home. The woman disclosed that seven of the kids died, leaving five girls and five boys.
The mother, who got married at the age of 14, stated that people are always in utter disbelief whenever she tells them how many children she has had.
