Briefly News reported that Dr Tumisang Makweya, better known as "Dr Tumi", has been released on bail along with his wife for allegedly defrauding the National Lotteries Board. The couple handed themselves over to the authorities on Tuesday.

The couple has been released on bail of R3 000 each. They had allegedly handed in grant applications that had been altered to get funds for projects they had planned back in 2018.

The applications were approved and this resulted in R1.5 million being transferred into a private bank account. Dr Tumi has been charged with fraud, along with his wife Kgaogelo Makweya.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu says that the couple allegedly received R760 000 of the funds that were transferred.
