SABC1's beloved telenovela Amalanga Awafani is shaking things up in a big way, bringing in a fresh face while resurrecting a character fans thought was gone for good. Actor and presenter Siphesihle Vazi steps into the drama as Dr Thokozane Jobe, and Melusi Yeni is back as the supposedly deceased Reginald Gumede.
Siphesihle Vazi's Dr Thokozane is not what he seems
Siphesihle made his debut on Monday, 24 August, slipping into the role of a confident medical professional who enters Stha's (Amandla Dladla) world first as her doctor. What begins as a straightforward professional relationship gradually shifts into a romantic connection, but viewers will soon sense that something is off beneath Thokozane's polished surface. A controlling nature lurks behind his charm, setting Stha up for a complicated and potentially dangerous entanglement.

The presenter hosted Selimathunzi for more than five years and also fronted the Weekend Gig Guide on Ukhozi FM, so this role marks yet another chapter in a long relationship with the public broadcaster.

Beyond the romantic tension, his character's storyline is set to open up conversations around parental and step-parent rights, a theme Siphesihle said he was particularly excited to explore.
