Major League DJZ Spark Outrage After Posting Safety Warning to Women Amid Kempton Park Murders

Major League DJZ have found themselves in hot water after posting a safety warning aimed at women in Johannesburg. While the message was clearly well-intentioned, many South African women felt the twin DJs had directed their concern at the wrong audience entirely.
On 14 September 2026, the duo shared a post on their joint X account, urging women across Johannesburg to take extra precautions amid a surge in violent attacks.
"Ladies in Johannesburg, please be extra careful and vigilant. There are reports of a dangerous individual targeting ladies in the area. Avoid walking or running alone, please move in groups, especially early in the morning or at night. Look out for one another and stay safe."
The warning followed a string of killings that have shaken communities in Gauteng. Five women have been found murdered in the Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein areas since July 2026. The most recent case involves 38-year-old Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, who left her home in Rhodesfield for a run on Wednesday, 9 September, and never returned.

A badly beaten woman in running attire was discovered in the area on 12 September. Due to the severity of her facial injuries, her family could only formally confirm her identity on 14 September. She is the fourth of five women found killed in the area over the past two months.
The South African Police Service (SAPS), under Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has since put together a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate whether a serial killer is responsible for the murders.

Mzansi women push back
Rather than receiving the message as a show of solidarity, many women in the comments called out the DJs for placing the burden of safety on potential victims rather than speaking to the perpetrators.
