Jay-Z is finally stepping into the spotlight he helped build. The NFL confirmed on 27 October 2026 that the rap legend will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, set for 14 February 2027 near Los Angeles.
Apple Music broke the news via an official announcement on its Instagram page, sharing a video of the Brooklyn-born rapper seated inside a stadium surrounded by goats - a deliberate play on his long-standing reputation as the "GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) in hip-hop.
From Roc Nation producer to halftime star
Born Shawn Carter, Jay-Z joins an elite list of recent halftime performers that includes Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and his wife Beyoncé, who has performed at the Super Bowl on multiple occasions. What makes his booking particularly significant is that Roc Nation, his entertainment company, has been producing the halftime show since 2019 - meaning Jay-Z has had a hand in curating the spectacle for years without ever taking the stage himself.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that this outcome was always his hope. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said.
He added that he "couldn't be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring."

Riding the wave of a milestone tour
The timing is no coincidence. The announcement landed shortly after Jay-Z wrapped shows at the very Los Angeles stadium where Super Bowl LXI will be hosted. Those concerts were part of a tour marking 30 years since the release of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, underlining the scale of the cultural moment he is stepping into.
The Super Bowl halftime show is watched by tens of millions across the United States each year and draws a massive global audience. The stakes are well established - in 2025, Kendrick Lamar's performance became the most-watched halftime show in history and later won an Emmy Award for outstanding music direction.
The news spread rapidly across social media following the announcement, generating widespread excitement from fans and fellow artists alike.
