SOUTH AFRICA — Sun International, the hospitality and gaming group behind the iconic Sun City resort, has confirmed that its Chief Financial Officer, Norman Basthdaw, will exit the business at the start of 2027. The announcement was communicated to shareholders on 20 August 2026.
Basthdaw first joined Sun International in 2013 as Group Executive for Mergers and Acquisitions before being appointed CFO in March 2017. Over the course of his 14-year association with the company, he shaped its financial direction, oversaw capital allocation decisions, and led major strategic transactions.
Basthdaw's biggest Deal
Among his most significant contributions was spearheading the 2015 merger with Chilean gaming operator Dreams S.A., which resulted in the formation of Sun Dreams — briefly the largest gaming company in Latin America. Sun International later chose to exit the region in 2020 to redirect its focus toward core domestic operations.
