A 7-year-old girl from a Tshwane township has taken South Africa by storm. Leante Isaacs, born and raised in Eersterus, won double gold at the South African Sub-Youth Track and Field Championships in Potchefstroom. It was her very first appearance at a national competition.
Representing Athletics Gauteng North, Leante claimed first place in the 60-metre sprint with a time of 9.37 seconds and followed it up with a 12.16-second finish in the 80-metre event, taking gold in both races. What made her performance even more remarkable was that she ran barefoot on the track.
Tshwane's 'Pocket Rocket' Goes National
The young athlete, affectionately nicknamed the "Pocket Rocket," had never competed at a national level before stepping onto the Potchefstroom track. Her natural speed and composure under pressure quickly won over spectators and viewers online alike.

Coloured South Africa shared her story on Facebook, where it drew widespread celebration from South Africans who were moved by her talent and her background. Many pointed to her barefoot run as a symbol of raw, unpolished greatness.
The South African Athletics Championships, organised by Athletics South Africa, is the country's premier national track and field competition. Its sub-youth category gives young athletes their first taste of national competition, and for Leante, it produced a debut to remember.
