A TikToker from the United States spoke directly to her camera on 16 September 2026. She urged the world to pay attention to what she described as a full-scale attack on women in South Africa.

@glamwithavabella said South African women had been sending her direct messages asking her to speak about the crisis after watching her older videos on personal safety. What she found when she started researching the issue left her shaken.

She cited the recent discovery of eight women's bodies in a single area, all found partially clothed and bearing signs of physical trauma, with police investigations ongoing. She framed this not as an isolated incident but as part of a much larger pattern.

The numbers @glamwithavabella shared painted a grim picture. According to her research, as reported by the SA government, roughly 7.3 million South African women have experienced either physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime. From January to March 2026 alone, South African police recorded 10,000 rape cases, averaging 106 per day, with nearly half occurring inside victims' homes.

She also pointed to a three-month period in 2024 during which approximately 1,000 women were murdered, as reported by the Human Sciences Research Council. She asked:

"How would you feel if the chances of you just being in your home meant that you could get raped or killed? That is the reality that women in South Africa are experiencing right now."
