A Cape Town content creator sent Mzansi on a full nostalgia trip. Austin Macaskill, better known on TikTok as @coolstorybru_, posted a video on 2 October 2026 running through a list of South Africa's most beloved discontinued snacks, and it struck a nerve with thousands of viewers.

The video covered a wide range of treats that have quietly vanished from shelves over the years. Cadbury Tempo, which was replaced by the 5 Star bar in 2017, made the list, as did the Nestlé Chocolate Log, which was axed in 2020. Beverages like Tab and Nesquik also came up, bringing back memories for many who grew up reaching for them at the tuck shop.

Chips, cereals and childhood classics

It was not just chocolates that came up. Potato chip fans were reminded of Simba Steers and the much-loved Lay's Salt & Vinegar flavour. Breakfast staples like Maltabella and ProNutro also featured, rounding out a list that cut across generations and lunchbox memories.
