"So Uncomfortable": Table Mountain Queue Stretches Over a Kilometre With 4-Hour Wait in Cape Town

  • A TikTok creator filmed an enormous queue of tourists snaking along the road leading to Table Mountain in Cape Town on 7 October 2026
  • The caption claimed that visitors were facing a several-hour-long wait just to board the cable car to the iconic landmark
  • • South Africans flooded the comments with survival tips, hiking alternatives and plenty of humour about the chaos

A Cape Town travel creator captured something that left thousands of viewers equal parts amused and horrified. On 7 October 2026, @bontalotours posted a TikTok walking alongside a queue of tourists that stretched for more than a kilometre along the road leading to Table Mountain.

The vertical, handheld clip pans along a seemingly endless line of people waiting to board the cable car to the summit. On-screen captions asked viewers to help count the crowd, noted a four-hour waiting time, and confirmed the queue ran for over a kilometre. The creator's exasperated, humorous tone matched the scale of what they were seeing.

Table Mountain is one of South Africa's most visited attractions, drawing local and international tourists year-round. The cable car, which carries visitors to the 1,086-metre summit, can only move so many people at a time, and on this particular day, demand clearly outpaced capacity by a wide margin. The video by @bontalotours struck a nerve with South Africans who know the mountain well, many of whom offered blunt but practical advice in the comments. Watch the full queue footage here:

Commenters on @bontalotours's TikTok were full of tips, shade and solidarity:

@Railroader advised:

"Buy a Red Bus ticket at the Waterfront that includes a ticket for the mountain. The bus drops you right in front of the door, and pre-booking has its own queue, easy."

@WolfWho kept it simple:

"Climb up, ride down, avoid the queue."

@Quinton Khumalo was unapologetic:

"Real Capetonians hike 😁"

@Hope_M said:

"I would never survive the line, I hiked."

@Ayanda Zikhali shared her own strategy:

"I arrived at 06:30 am, and I was the second person on the line."

@waykes boltman admitted:

"I'm unfit and fat, took me 3.5 hours to hike up."

@Ntombi_MaZungu had no regrets despite the ordeal:

"Was there Sunday, waiting hours to get out and there were tiny insects, so uncomfortable but definitely going back for the experience and the ice cream 🥰"
