MRI results have since confirmed that the ordeal caused damage, and doctors have indicated the road to recovery will be long and filled with challenges. Kyle is currently hospitalised at Johannesburg General Hospital.

The situation is made harder by his mother Chaleen's circumstances. She is a single parent who earns commission-based income and does not have medical aid cover. The financial pressure of having a child in hospital, with no safety net, has placed enormous strain on the family.
