LIMPOPO — Four people have died, including three scholars, after a bus and a Toyota Quantum taxi collided head-on on the road between Jupiter and Diana in the Mashashane area of Limpopo on Thursday, 20 August 2026.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed that the bus was transporting 32 learners from Moletjie, while the Quantum taxi was carrying 15 learners from Zebediela at the time of the crash.

Authorities have now confirmed that three female learners and one of the drivers passed away. At least 14 others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, with injuries described as varying in severity.

Limpopo Premier offers condolences

Speaking about the tragedy, Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba extended her condolences to the families of the three learners who died and appealed for calm as authorities investigate the cause of the crash. A formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision has been launched.

The department said its thoughts remained with the affected learners, their families, and their school communities during what it described as a difficult time.
