Big Brother Mzansi Season 5 winner Akhonamathemba "Sweet Guluva" Zwane has landed a role on SABC 1's popular drama series Amalanga Awafani, thrilling fans who have been eager to see him back on their screens since his reality TV run.
Entertainment reporter @TvblogbyMLU broke the news on Thursday, 10 September 2026, confirming that Sweet Guluva will make his debut on the show on Friday, 11 September 2026. He plays Ngwenya, described as a firm but entertaining restaurant manager at the local watering hole.

Sweet Guluva's acting journey
This is not Sweet Guluva's first step into acting. The actor and reality TV personality previously made his acting debut on the BET Africa telenovela Black Gold after capturing the hearts of South African audiences on Big Brother Mzansi.
Also announced in the same casting update is award-winning actress Thandeka Nodada, who is set to make her Amalanga Awafani debut on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. Nodada will portray Nandipha, described as a sophisticated and influential businesswoman who enters the life of central character Thembi as a mentor figure.

'Amalanga Awafani' cast and crew allegedly unpaid
Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported that the cast and crew were allegedly not paid and were reportedly ill-treated while working on set.
Several South Africans criticised the alleged treatment and demanded that the workers receive their outstanding payments.
