A South African man's wedding proposal did not go quite as planned. Seconds after dropping to one knee and kissing his partner on slippery rocks mid-river, the man completely lost his footing and slid all the way down a set of rushing rapids, leaving his new fiancée stranded at the top.

The clip, shared on 5 October 2026, was originally posted by Facebook user Marcius_Van and quickly gained traction after another online creator stitched it with the commentary: "Sometimes the Lord gives us signs... not this one." That line alone had thousands of viewers in stitches.

A proposal no one saw coming

The setting was scenic enough. The couple stood together on rocks in the middle of a river, water rushing around them, as he went down on one knee. The moment he rose and the two embraced, the rocks had other plans. He slipped and disappeared downstream, bumping along the rapids while his partner looked on from above.
