A South African aunt named Nompumelelo Sigudla on Instagram showed Mzansi that matric magic does not have to cost a fortune. On 9 October 2026, she posted a vlog-style video revealing how she gave her niece a glamorous matric dance experience for just over R3,200, including getting the young girl's ears pierced.

The video takes viewers through the full preparation process. Nompumelelo sourced budget-friendly outfits, a Dubai perfume called "Pleasant," nail treatments, and hair products, all while keeping costs as low as possible. When it came to makeup, she did it herself using her own products since the two happen to share the same skin tone.

To make the experience feel truly special, she also booked an Airbnb for R850 and borrowed her husband's car for the occasion. In her caption, she noted there were additional miscellaneous expenses like petrol and food on top of the R3,200 figure.

A niece who made it easy

What stood out just as much as the budget itself was the young girl's attitude throughout the process. Nompumelelo wrote that her niece never once demanded anything expensive and kept checking whether her aunt could manage the costs.

"I am also blessed to have a niece who is respectful and understanding. Not once did she demand anything expensive, and she kept asking if I can manage."

That combination of a generous aunt and a grateful niece clearly struck a chord with South Africans online.
