SOUTH AFRICA - Duduzane Zuma, the newly appointed first deputy president of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has defended a string of high-profile leadership changes within the organisation, saying they reflect a commitment to excellence rather than internal chaos.

Jacob Zuma's son was confirmed in the role with immediate effect last Tuesday. The appointment came after several reshuffles at the top of the party, moves that critics have pointed to as evidence of deepening instability.

Duduzane, however, framed the changes differently. He argued that a willingness to remove underperforming leaders should actually give voters more reason to trust the MK Party, not less.

He further added that the party will not tolerate incompetence and people who are unable when it comes to delivering services to South Africans

He went on to describe the reshuffles as a sign of discipline across the party's ranks rather than dissent. According to Duduzane, the aim is to ensure the MK Party is ready to govern should it take power.

"When we speak of changes, it is less of turmoil or dissidence in the party but is of us saying for all rank and file we want the best of the best for this party, so that when we take over government we have the capacity to run institutions,he said.

Critics unmoved by explanation

Despite the confident tone, political observers and critics have not been won over. Many see the repeated reshuffles as a symptom of deeper divisions within the party, with leadership positions changing hands at a pace that raises questions about organisational stability.
