Gopal reportedly told Govender that he was instructed to investigate the councillor but found no reason to arrest him. Govender said that after the failed attempt to have him arrested, the ANC leaders in the province joined the fight against him.

The MKP councillor stated that Mchunu and the MEC of Education, Sipho Hlomuka, went to the Principal of Shakaskraal primary school on 15 March to investigate the teachers wearing MKP regalia.

This allegedly led to the suspension of the school principal, who has been suspended from 15 April 2025. Mchunu reportedly said that he will respond to the allegations at the commission.

He said that Mchunu met with the North Coast station commander, Major General Antony, to talk about a case against Governder.
