Fashion designer and model Carika Bebb has taken over as Mrs South Africa 2026 after Verushka Singh stepped down months after winning the title.
Verushka Singh, who was crowned Mrs South Africa during a ceremony held on 15 November 2025 at Emperors Palace, becoming the first Indian South African woman to win the title, stepped down months into her reign.
Why did Verushka Singh resign as Mrs South Africa 2026?
News24 reports that Singh stepped down to prioritise her son, who has special needs. Initial reports indicated that personal reasons had forced her to resign without getting into details.

Singh told News24 that her son’s needs had increased during her short tenure, forcing her to choose between the title and him.
“I had to make an intentional choice to be there for my son. I wanted to be the one here for him, and I feel strongly about that. I feel quite proud about that. He’s not going to be this age forever. When you can see that somebody needs you at that time, you have to make that difficult decision,” she said.
New Mrs South Africa 2026 crowned after Verushka Singh resigns
After the chemical engineer resigned as Mrs South Africa 2026, Carika Bebb took over. Bebb, A 44-year-old mom of two from Cape Town, was initially crowned 1st Princess on the night Singh made history as the first Indian South African woman to be crowned Mrs South Africa.
Mrs South Africa CEO Joani Jacobs said Carika Bebb took over as Mrs South Africa in line with tradition.

After Bebb was crowned Mrs South Africa, she penned a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday, 28 March 2026.
“I was crowned as @mrs_south_africa 2026 today. So many incredible women have worn this crown, and God had a plan with each one of them, but it’s never about the duration, but the purpose behind it,” Bebb said.

It is unclear whether Talitha Oosthuizen, an advocate against human trafficking, who was initially crowned the 2nd princess, will take over as the 1st princess now that Bebb has been crowned Mrs South Africa 2026.
Speaking to Briefly News, a psychologist shared that celebrities being open teaches fans that vulnerability is strength and not weakness.
"Fans often view celebrities as role models. Honest conversations about their lives can reveal that being vulnerable is acceptable and that true strength may involve asking for help or in this case stepping away," the psychologist said.
