KWAZULU-NATAL - An African National Congress (ANC) councillor has been shot dead in Klaarwater, in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

The councillor, who has not yet been identified, was shot by a gunman at close range on 6 August 2026. A search is underway for the perpetrator.

Gunman posed as a resident seeking help

According to police, the shooter approached the councillor under the pretence of needing assistance, blending in with community members who had gathered for a consultation. Once in proximity to the victim, the attacker opened fire before escaping the scene. The councillor was killed as a result of the shooting,
