EASTERN CAPE — Authorities in Gqeberha have launched a manhunt for a motorist following a deadly altercation believed to have been sparked by road rage on Friday evening, which claimed the life of a 56-year-old man.

The fatal clash occurred around 8:27 pm on 23 October 2026 along Circular Drive in the suburb of Lorraine. Walmer police representative Captain Andre Beetge reported that the victim, behind the wheel of a white Honda Accord, entered into a dispute with a man operating an unidentified blue or silver SUV.

Motorist collided with wall following dispute

As the confrontation escalated, the SUV driver reportedly inflicted a stab wound on the Honda driver. Although injured, the man tried to navigate away from the scene in his car, managing only a brief distance before losing control.

"He attempted to drive further, but after a short distance he lost control of his vehicle and bumped into a wall close to the Circular Drive and Henri Botha Street intersection," said Beetge.

The motorist succumbed to his injuries at the site of the crash. A murder docket has been opened through the South African Police Service in Walmer, with detectives actively pursuing leads to trace the SUV driver, who fled prior to law enforcement's arrival.

Inquiries into the full sequence of events leading up to the killing remain underway.
