GAUTENG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will unconditionally withdraw, in its entirety, the criminal case against Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, the head of Crime Intelligence, along with six co-accused senior police officers.
General Khumalo, Major-General Nosipho Madondo, Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, Major-General Philani Lushaba, Major-General Josias Lekalaka, Major-General Zwelithini Gabela, and Brigadier Phindile Ncube faced charges centred on alleged fraud and corruption.

The charges were related to Brigadier Mokwele's appointment to a senior Technical Support Services role within Crime Intelligence. The original case rested on the claim that Mokwele was an unqualified civilian, and that senior officers had manipulated the recruitment process to secure her appointment.

NPA to drop charges
The decision represents a full and unconditional withdrawal, departing from the NPA's position last month when it indicated charges would be provisionally withdrawn pending a review and any further evidence from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
The communication was conveyed by IDAC advocate Joy Hlatywayo in an email seen by Newzroom405. Hlatywayo's name featured prominently during the IDAC hearings at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry as someone who had raised concerns internally about the adequacy of evidence against the senior Crime Intelligence officials well before the matter reached court.
