Thulasizwe Mbuyane, the former Orlando Pirates striker who once thrilled supporters at Orlando Stadium, has stepped into a new arena as a councillor candidate for Ward 67 under the Economic Liberators Forum South Africa (ELF-SA).
The 43-year-old, born in Mamelodi, was officially unveiled by the party as part of its campaign carrying the slogan "The Next Step Is Change." His platform centres on community development, youth empowerment, safer neighbourhoods and improved service delivery.
From the Buccaneers to the ballot box
Mbuyane built his professional reputation after moving to Orlando Pirates from Free State Stars, going on to spend six seasons with the club. During that time, he accumulated 95 league appearances and 19 goals for the Buccaneers, according to [Transfermarkt], while records across all competitions place his total at 116 appearances and 22 goals for the club. He was a recognisable presence in the side during a particularly successful period, contributing to both league and cup victories.

Now representing ELF-SA, Mbuyane is channelling that community standing into a bid for local government representation.
