SOUTH AFRICA — National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams found himself under heavy scrutiny during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission after key aspects of his statements unravelled under questioning.
According to IOL, a central point of friction involved a referral submitted to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC). Adams maintained that his submission flagged irregularities within the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), pointing to controversial promotions and the potential misuse of crime intelligence funds.
This account directly clashed with earlier evidence from former IDAC chief Advocate Andrea Johnson, who stated that Adams’s filing made no reference to the task team and that the unit was not under investigation.
The omission of these details from the physical document before the inquiry led Commissioners Mbuyiseli Madlanga, Sesi Baloyi, and Sandile Khumalo to raise concerns over possible tampering or falsification. Further complicating matters, Adams confirmed he had lodged criminal charges against IDAC and lead investigator Dylan Perumal regarding the management of the failed probe.

Pressure mounted when Adams acknowledged providing inaccurate information to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. In an email to the minister, Adams had alleged that police dockets registered in Gauteng and Cape Town were being intercepted. Evidence leader Lee Segeels-Ncube criticized him for failing to confirm the claim with local police stations prior to notifying the minister.
When Adams, who was rebuked for calling Madlanga "chief", cited conversations with the late Major-General André Lincoln to justify his actions, Professor Brian Williams, a close friend and mentor to Lincoln, strongly refuted the connection during the session.
