GAUTENG — A South African Police Service officer has died after an apparent attack by her own dogs at her home in Soweto.

Warrant Officer Mmaleho Olga Bawa, who was attached to the Roodepoort SAPS, was discovered dead at her residence in Soweto on 11 September 2026. The dogs involved in the incident are reportedly pit bulls. The incident happened three months after a woman was mauled to death by dogs in Klerksdorp, North West.

Circumstances still under investigation

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security cluster account on X announced the death on 11 September 2026, noting that the report had not yet been independently confirmed by police and that the full circumstances remained unclear.
