GAUTENG - Two Lenasia men were kidnapped in broad daylight on 9 September 2026, after being forced into a white Quantum taxi by what appeared to be a group of at least five men in Johannesburg.

Crime journalist Yusuf Abramjee shared footage of the incident on X, identifying the victims as Mohamed Reyhaan Bhaijhan and Tameez Coovadia, both from Lenasia. According to Abramjee, the men were seized from Tobacco Junction in the area at roughly 8am and shoved into the waiting vehicle by force.

The video captured the terrifying scene as bystanders watched the men being bundled in without any apparent intervention.

Kidnapping metres from a police station

What has left many residents deeply unsettled is the location. The abduction took place just 100 metres from a police station, raising serious questions about police visibility and crime prevention in the area.

South Africans on X were gripped by the video, expressing alarm at the boldness of the attackers and frustration over safety in communities like Lenasia.

Teen girl kidnapped in Mayfair

Previously, Briefy News reported that a 14-year-old girl named Fatima Ahmed was kidnapped in Mayfair, Johannesburg, on 7 July 2026, with outdoor CCTV footage capturing the moment she was taken near a residential street. The security camera footage, labelled "Camera 03" with a visible timestamp, shows a dark-coloured car parked with its doors open close to residential bbuildings, with a person approaching the vehicle across the sequence of frames.
