Zolani Tete Murder: Police Recover Firearms Believed to Be Used in Shooting As Four Appear in Court

EASTERN CAPE - Eastern Cape police have confirmed that three firearms believed to have been used in the murder of former boxing champion Zolani Tete were recovered during the ongoing investigation.
Tete (38), a two-time world champion (IBF junior-bantamweight 2014 and WBO bantamweight 2017-2019), was ambushed and shot dead outside his home in Mdantsane on 22 August 2026. Four people have since been arrested in connection with the murder.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Vuyisile Ncata, confirmed that the firearms were recovered, which strengthened the case against those in custody.

"We have managed to arrest those we reasonably believe were involved in the planning and execution of the murder of the late former champion," Ncata said.
"The recovery of the firearms forms part of the investigation. We cannot rule out the possibility that other people are involved because the suspects are not the manufacturers of those firearms. We still need to determine where the firearms came from and who owned them," Ncata said.
Four suspects appear in court
Three individuals, the alleged hitmen Siphesihle Kolisa (28) and Athandwa Gangala (27), as well as alleged middleman Sinebongo Qase (28), appeared before the Mdantsane Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
They were joined by Uzuzole Goqwana (22), who made his first court appearance on Monday, 24 August 2026, as the alleged mastermind behind the killing. All four face charges linked to the murder of Tete and the attempted murder of Tete's girlfriend.
