Benni McCarthy made history when he became the first South African footballer to win the UEFA Champions League back in 2004. Coached by the legendary Portuguese and nomadic manager Josè Mourinho, Benni was a hit for FC Porto.

17 years later, the feeling is still new in the mind and heart of the AmaZulu coach who took to his Instagram page to reminisce about the monumental moment.

The former Bafana Bafana striker posted a number of images in which, together with his teammates, he celebrates the historic win.

In the final, Port faced off against French outfit AS Monaco at the Arena Auf Schalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on 26 May. The Portuguese giants claimed a 3–0 victory and goals came through Carlos Alberto, Deco and Dmitri Alenichev. Benni posted:

“17 years ago we did the unthinkable. Winning the Uefa Champions League what a feeling that was @fcporto #championsleague #memories”

McCarthy and his wife have seen seven years of marriage and the former UEFA Champions League winner has reaffirmed his love for Stacey.
