Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has reportedly passed away after being found dead at his home in England on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The legendary British boxer secured world championships in both the light-welterweight and welterweight divisions during his career. His domination in both divisions earned him widespread acclaim for his relentless, all-action style that made him a fan favourite among British boxing supporters.
He rose through the ranks of amateur and domestic success to face elite opponents such as Kostya Tszyu, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao on the global stage.
Police provide update on Hatton's death
Hatton passed away at the age of 46. He was found dead at his residence in Hyde, northwest England.

The late boxing legend openly spoke about the mental health struggles he faced after retiring from the sport.
He was due to return to the ring in December 2025, after announcing in July his plans to stage a comeback. He was expected to face Eisa Al Dah in a professional bout in Dubai.
Greater Manchester Police issued an official statement through their spokesman, confirming that the death will not be treated as suspicious.
“Officers responded to a call from a member of the public at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday to Bowlacre Road in Hyde, Tameside, where they discovered the body of a 46-year-old man. Authorities confirmed that no suspicious circumstances were involved.” the police spokesperson said.

Aside from boxing, Hatton was a lifelong fan of English Premier League giants Manchester City, who paid tribute to him by releasing a statement on their X handle.
"Manchester City are devastated to learn Ricky Hatton has passed away, aged 46," the club’s statement reads.
"Ricky was one of City’s most loved and revered supporters, who will always be remembered for a glittering boxing career that saw him win world titles at welterweight and light-welterweight.
"Everyone at the club would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
"We can confirm there will be a minute’s appreciation ahead of today’s game against Manchester United."
The news of Hatton's death came after the unfortunate passing of SA kite-surfer, Graham Howes, and rugby legend Bevin Fortuin.

Briefly News earlier reported that a Springboks legend passed on at the age of 80 after a brief illness.
The veteran South African rugby legend is also widely known as a winemaker, an industry he joined after retirement.
