SANParks Mahala Week: Enter South Africa's National Parks for Free, Including Kruger National Park

South Africans have a rare chance to explore the country's wildlife without spending a cent. SANParks confirmed that its annual Mahala Week will run from 7 to 13 September 2026, opening the gates of national parks to local visitors at no cost.

TikTok creator @comfortjie shared the news in a video filmed outside the Mapungubwe Interpretive Centre, breaking down everything South Africans need to know before heading out.

All you need to qualify for free entry is a valid South African ID. The promotion covers the entrance fee only and does not extend to accommodation or any additional activities inside the parks.

SANParks manages more than 19 national parks across the country, but not every park will participate for the full week. Kruger National Park and Mapungubwe National Park will open their gates free of charge only from 7 to 11 September 2026.
