Author and activist Jackie Phamotse raised eyebrows on Monday, 21 September 2026, when she posted a pointed question on X following the arrest of a high-ranking South African Police Service officer. Her six-word post,
"Was the General arrested alone?", sent her followers into a frenzy of speculation.
The arrest was confirmed by SAPS Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, who welcomed the news and strongly condemned the alleged behaviour. The officer in question is a 59-year-old Lieutenant General who faces two serious charges: the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026, and the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026. Members of the Commission Recommendations Task Team (CRTT) carried out the arrest, and the officer was expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrates' Court on 22 September 2026.
SAPS confirms arrest of Lieutenant General
Lieutenant General Dimpane was unambiguous in her response to the arrest, particularly given the country's ongoing battles with gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

"Police officers are entrusted with protecting women and children. They cannot themselves be implicated in conduct that undermines this responsibility. As the country continues to confront the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide, there can be no room for anyone within the police service who is alleged to abuse their position or violate the rights of women and children," she said.
She further stressed that seniority offers no protection from accountability.
