Ninth Ekurhuleni Killing: 2 Suspects Appear in Court As Third Person Walks Free

GAUTENG — Two suspects have appeared before the Boksburg Magistrate's Court in connection with the murder of Jabulile Ntimba, identified as the ninth victim in a series of women's killings in Ekurhuleni.

Fortunate Masilela and Tsakane Nester Msithini face charges of premeditated murder under gender-based violence legislation, as well as defeating or obstructing the course of justice. The case was postponed to 1 October 2026, with both accused remanded in custody.

Love triangle at the centre of the killing

Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, the Deputy National Police Commissioner for Policing, told the media that Ntimba's body was discovered in Villa Liza, Boksburg, on 17 September. According to Mosikili, the circumstances surrounding her death appear to stem from a love triangle.

A third person of interest, a man, was questioned by investigators but was ultimately not enrolled in the proceedings. Mosikili clarified that the decision was made jointly with prosecutors.

"The team found it fit with the prosecution for the third person not to appear," she said.

She added that the individual has been released while the investigation continues.

Authorities confirmed there is currently no evidence sufficient to charge the third person of interest. Police stated that follow-up work remains under way and that the release is conditional on the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Ntimba's death drew significant public attention as it was the ninth in a troubling pattern of women's killings recorded in the Ekurhuleni area. Her identity was confirmed by police as the case gained wider scrutiny.

The victim, estimated to be in her twenties, was found wrapped in a duvet. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unknown at this stage, according to SABC News reporter Heidi Giokos, who broke the news on X.
