“A Missing Woman Is Not a Joke”: SA TikToker Shares Thoughts on Podcast & Chill Amid SA’s GBV Crisis

A South African TikToker known as Mrs Winderley filmed a pointed selfie-style video on 18 September 2026, calling out the popular South African podcast Podcast and Chill over comments she said were deeply disrespectful towards women.
In the video, Mrs Winderley said she had been tagged in several pieces of content related to the controversy and had since watched the episode that led to host Sol Penduka issuing a public apology.
What she thinks Podcast and Chill got wrong
Her issue was not just with what was said, but with everyone who said nothing. She said:

"This is what happens when somebody says something and the other people in the room say nothing."
She pointed out that boundaries shift when poor behaviour goes unchallenged, with each instance pushing further until someone eventually goes too far.
She was particularly disturbed that the episode centred on a murdered woman, who left behind an eight-year-old child. She said directly to camera:
"A missing woman, a missing mother of an eight-year-old child is not a joke."
Mrs Winderley also questioned the post-production process, noting that podcast episodes are typically reviewed before release and someone on the team had the opportunity to pull the segment before it aired.
"You're apologising because you got caught"
On Penduka's apology, she was blunt. She said the apology was only happening because the boundary had been pushed so far that public accountability became unavoidable.
"You went too far many, many times before this instance."
She added that she had little interest in whether the apology was heartfelt or effective.
She ended with a broader call to action, urging both men and women to speak up when they witness harmful comments or jokes.
"See something, say something. It's not chill to let something slide."
