How Chivayo funded Scottland's rise

Founded in 2023 and based in Mabvuku, Scottland progressed from the Northern Region Soccer League to earn promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. In its debut top-flight season, the club won the 2025 PSL title.

Chivayo was central to that journey financially. He publicly pledged US$1 million after Scottland secured promotion, with a further US$600,000 committed to support the club's PSL campaign. He also delivered 20 Toyota Aqua vehicles to the club.

In April 2026, Scottland received a reported US$300,000 from Chivayo to prepare for the CAF Champions League, and additional incentives followed the club's Independence Cup victory over Highlanders, sealed by a Knowledge Musona goal in a 1-0 win.

His involvement extended beyond finances. In January 2026, Chivayo publicly announced the appointment of former Zimbabwe international Peter Ndlovu as Scottland's team manager. As recently as September, daily reporting indicated he had pledged US$500,000 should Scottland retain the PSL title, plus performance bonuses tied to the CAF Champions League campaign.

At the time of Chivayo's death, Scottland were leading the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings with 61 points, one ahead of Hardrock on 60, with five matches remaining in the season.

What his death means for the club's funding going forward has not yet been established, and Scottland has not publicly addressed the financial implications.
