GAUTENG — Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama has been granted R15,000 bail at the Randburg Magistrate's Court after appearing on 1 October 2026.

The Zimbabwean businessman faces 10 charges, including fraud, intimidation, crimen injuria, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The case originates from a video recorded at Vlamo restaurant in Sandton on the evening of 18 September 2026.

In the video, Mudzinganyama could be seen confronting a group of women near the ladies' powder-room area after they rejected his advances. During the confrontation, he was filmed making explicit death threats, telling them that he would talk free after killing them.

He also reportedly boasted about his wealth, calling the women "poor ladies" and claiming an ownership stake in the restaurant. A case was opened at Randburg Police Station on 19 September, and he was initially released on a warning to appear in court on 1 October 2026.

Witnesses have since come forward

Following his brief appearance, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that witnesses have since come forward. The NPA has also not ruled out that more charges could be added. The case was postponed to 15 October 2026.

Mudzinganyama's bail amount sparks public anger

The R15,000 bail figure drew sharp criticism online, with many questioning whether the amount was proportionate given Mudzinganyama's apparent wealth and the seriousness of the charges against him.

"R15K for those charges to top that off. With such a small amount for a wealthy man, this court doesn't take us seriously."
