Former SABC Sports Presenter’s Ford Raptor Found Stripped After Alleged Kidnapping

Former SABC sports presenter and commentator Owen Ndlovu remains missing after he was allegedly abducted by armed men in Katlehong on Tuesday evening, 15 September 2026.

The latest development in the case is the recovery of Ndlovu’s Ford Raptor bakkie, which Africa Daily reported was found abandoned and partially stripped in Walkerville.
According to Katlehong police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the alleged abduction happened at approximately 20:00 while Ndlovu was collecting his wife from a church service.
How Owen Ndlovu was allegedly abducted
Police said Ndlovu’s wife was approaching their vehicle when three unknown men allegedly moved in, with one reportedly carrying a firearm. The suspects allegedly pushed his wife aside before forcing Ndlovu into the back of his Ford Raptor and driving away.

Ndlovu’s wife, Portia, told reporters that her husband attempted to escape but was overpowered. Portia also said Ndlovu’s cellphone continued ringing after 21:00 and that his WhatsApp profile appeared online before the phone was eventually switched off. Police later recovered the Ford Raptor in Walkerville, where it was reportedly found abandoned and partially stripped.
Ndlovu, however, remains missing. Ndlovu is known to South African sports audiences from his work as a presenter and commentator for the SABC.
During his broadcasting career, he covered football and other sporting events and was involved in PSL radio programming through his production company, Michaelowen Productions. His career later expanded into the music industry, where he became involved with Artists United and the SABC Summer Song of the Year concept.
Abduction comes before court appearance
The alleged kidnapping also happened just hours before Ndlovu was expected to appear at Booysen Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 16 September.
The court appearance relates to his ongoing legal dispute with the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and its CEO, Annabelle Lebethe.
Lebethe previously obtained an interim protection order against Ndlovu, but the order was later dismissed and discharged by the court. Ndlovu subsequently returned to court in connection with the matter, with Lebethe expected to appear following an application lodged by Ndlovu.

Among them was prominent businessman Owen Ndlovu and singer Mercy Pakela, who accused SAMRO of spreading misinformation.
