"The conviction follows a fatal collision on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa. On 30 October 2024, Mogaila's vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. The crash claimed the life of 9-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela and left her mother and 13-year-old brother seriously injured."
The crash occurred on 30 October 2024, when Mogaila's car crossed into the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
A case that has drawn significant attention
The matter has been closely followed since the crash. Gomolemo's mother previously accused Sekhukhune United of emotional abuse in the aftermath of the tragedy, while the club also faced scrutiny after the family of the deceased girl reportedly gave their blessing for Mogaila to return to playing football while proceedings were still underway.
The case had been postponed on multiple occasions before reaching its conclusion in court this week. With a conviction now secured, the NPA will proceed to sentencing, where the court will determine the appropriate penalty for the charges Mogaila admitted to.
