What should motorists do?
For anyone who needs to drive through Johannesburg on Saturday, the key points are:
- Avoid the Ellis Park and New Doornfontein area where possible
- Take the M1 or M2 instead of affected local roads
- Allow considerably more time for your journey

- If using the park-and-ride service, remember that the final return bus leaves by 20:00
The JMPD has urged road users to "plan ahead and use alternative routes" and exercise patience during the disruptions.
