DStv is preparing to restructure its subscription offering with a new interest-based package system, according to leaked data circulating online this week. The revamped lineup is expected to go live on 17 September 2026.

The proposed packages span five tiers, ranging from a basic Starter option at R99 per month to a Premium package at R799. The most discussed addition is a dedicated Sports package priced at R399 per month, which would include Premier League and UEFA football, local rugby, some URC content, cricket, UFC and WWE, alongside limited entertainment channels.
DStv's new package breakdown
The full proposed lineup is as follows: Starter (R99, 85 channels) covers local shows, news and some sport; Select (R299, 100 channels) adds kids' content and more sport; Sports (R399, 115 channels) focuses on football, rugby, cricket and combat sports; Movies and Series (R500, 115 channels) includes M-Net, kykNET, BBC Earth and Discovery; and Premium (R799, 130 channels) offers the complete package with all SuperSport channels.

The restructure is believed to be driven by Canal+, the French media company that recently acquired MultiChoice, the South African group behind DStv, SuperSport and M-Net. The move follows years of reported subscriber losses to streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube.
The SuperSport restructuring is not the only significant change ahead for DStv subscribers. From 16 September, four entertainment channels will be removed from the platform entirely: Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Music, M-Net Movies 1 and kykNET Lekker. MultiChoice has framed the broader exercise as a move towards a leaner, more focused channel offering.
The adjustments come as MultiChoice continues to reshape DStv following Canal+'s takeover of the pay-TV operator, with the company consolidating its content strategy across both sport and entertainment.
For viewers, the immediate practical effect of the August changes will be a need to relearn channel numbers and names as the SuperSport rebrand takes hold across the platform.

Subscribers sceptical over sports tier value
Despite the appeal of a standalone sports option, the exclusion of SuperSport from anything below the R799 Premium tier has drawn sharp criticism online. SuperSport carries flagship South African sporting events, including Springbok rugby and Proteas cricket fixtures.
