Daylon Galant’s Mother Believes Rugby Player Was Targeted in Kraaifontein Shooting

A 25-year-old rugby player was shot dead in Scottsville, Kraaifontein, on Tuesday night, leaving his family and club in mourning after what his mother believes was a deliberate attack.

Daylon Galant was reportedly heading to his girlfriend's home after a rugby practice session when he was ambushed. His mother, Janine Scholtz, according to IOL, told reporters a black car had been waiting for him in Petunia Street before the shooting erupted.
"When his grandmother and I got to the scene, he was bleeding a lot. When I saw that he was shot in the head, I knew my child would not make it. We saw him breathe out his last breath. It was almost like he was just waiting for his grandmother and me," Scholtz was quoted by IOL.
No motive established, no arrests made
She described Galant as a fun-loving young man, adding that he had jokingly asked her the previous week whether she was ready to become a grandmother. She said she still needed to confirm with his girlfriend whether the comment was genuine.

Scholtz said she and Galant’s grandmother rushed to the scene after learning he had been shot. She said the severity of his injuries made her fear the worst, adding that it felt as though he had waited for them to arrive before passing away.
Galant played for Hands and Heart RFC, which paid tribute to him following his death.
Second rugby player killed in two days
Galant's death followed closely on the killing of another Kraaifontein rugby player. Eltino "Malkak" Fortuin, 27, of Morningstar Rugby Club, was shot dead at Gabrielle Court in Scottsdene on Monday. Police said Fortuin sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. A second man, aged 20, was also shot and killed in the same block approximately 30 minutes later.
The two deaths within 24 hours have shaken the local rugby community in Kraaifontein.
