A 27-year-old rugby player from Kraaifontein has been killed in a double murder at a residential complex in Scottsdene, Cape Town, with police yet to identify any suspects or establish a motive.
Eltino Fortuin, known in rugby circles as "Malkak," was found dead inside C-Block of Gabrielle Court at approximately 12:05 on Monday, 21 September 2026.
Officers who arrived at the scene discovered him with gunshot wounds to his head, left arm, and lower back. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene. A second victim was subsequently found deceased elsewhere in the same complex, prompting authorities to register a double-murder case.
SAPS probing double murder in Kraaifontein, Cape Town
Provincial police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk confirmed the investigation in a statement, saying:
"Kraaifontein police registered a murder case for investigation following the death of a 27-year-old male on Monday, 21 September 2026, at about 12:05, in C-Block, Gabrielle Court, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein," the police spokesperson said.

"Upon members' arrival, they found the body of the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his head, left arm and lower back. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
"The circumstances surrounding both these incidents are under investigation. The motive for these attacks forms part of the police investigation. No suspects at this stage; the investigation is still ongoing."
As of late September 2026, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
Rugby community mourns 'Malkak'
Fortuin was a prominent figure at the Morningstar Rugby Club (MRC), where teammates and coaches held him in high regard. Following news of his death, tributes emerged from across the Cape Town rugby community.
The MRC released a statement describing him as "100% an MRC Boy" and pledged that his love for the sport and his teammates would not be forgotten.
Gavin Riddles, Acting CPF Chairperson and National Chairperson of the Community Law and Order Foundation, added his voice to the condemnation:
"We totally condemn these senseless daily killings and shootings in Kraaifontein. More must be done, and enough is enough. This is a murder and double murder; too much."
