Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has offered Pitso Mosimane his full support as the new Bafana Bafana coach prepares for his first competitive matches in charge.
Mosimane took over from Hugo Broos and will begin his second spell with the national team against Guinea in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Orlando Stadium this weekend. Bafana will then face Eritrea in Egypt.

Speaking to SABC Sport on 23 September 2026, Cardoso said he was prepared to assist Mosimane whenever needed.
According to SABC Sport, Cardoso said:
“National teams have always existed, and I totally support the work of the national team of South Africa.
"It is my job, and that's why I am putting myself at the service of coach Pitso in whatever he needs from my side to help him be as strong as possible.”
The Portuguese coach also stressed that players should put their club identities aside when representing Bafana.
Sundowns players become South African players
Sundowns have a major presence in Mosimane’s squad, but Cardoso said the players should be viewed differently once they report for international duty.
“Obviously, it's not my work – it is his, but I will absolutely support him,” he said.
“I think it is important that we understand that in the national team, there are no Sundowns players – there are national team players. They just become Sundowns players when they come back.”
Cardoso also pointed to his previous relationship with Broos, saying he had similarly made himself available to the former Bafana coach.

Cardoso calls for cooperation ahead of busy schedule
The Sundowns coach said he wanted Mosimane to make a strong start and hoped South Africa would achieve positive results.
“The coach obviously is starting – he needs to get off to a good start. We want him to start very well,” Cardoso said.
Cardoso said Bafana’s success should be embraced across South African football, regardless of which clubs supply the players. He wants the national team’s results to be celebrated with the same enthusiasm shown when clubs achieve success.
With Sundowns also entering a demanding run of fixtures, Cardoso called for closer cooperation between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
His comments also point to an open line of communication between the Sundowns coach and Mosimane as several of the club’s players join the national team. Mosimane will get his first competitive test back in charge when Bafana face Guinea before travelling to Egypt to face Eritrea.

Briefly News previously reported that Pitso Mosimane has taken a different approach to building his Bafana Bafana technical team, with several coaches set to work on a part-time basis during international camps.
The new coach said the arrangement is also designed to give South African coaches valuable international experience.
