WITBANK - The family of Vusimuzi Radebe is demanding answers after the Witbank man was allegedly beaten to death on his way home, with loved ones convinced he lost his life over a single detail — where he had once lived.

Family speak on Radebe's death

According to the family, Radebe was making his way from his grandmother's home in Kwaguqa to Lynville on Saturday, 19 September 2026, when he was stopped and questioned by a group of people. He told them he had previously lived in Kempton Park and was simply returning home after a visit. He never made it.

His family say the men who questioned him then turned on him. He was beaten at the scene and died before help could reach him.

Family remembers a quiet, gentle man

Those who knew Radebe say the violence made no sense given who he was.

"Vusi was a quiet person who did not speak much. He was simply walking home. He was a human being — someone's son, grandson and loved one," the family said.

The family had originally moved to Kempton Park in the early 1990s but returned to Witbank roughly a month before his death, settling in Lynville following retirement. It was a short visit to his grandmother in Kwaguqa that cost him his life.

His family say they cannot make sense of how a man's past address could lead to his killing.

"Because of the recent violence in Kempton Park, assumptions were made about him," they said

suggesting that fear and suspicion in the community may have played a role in what happened.

His family has urged anyone who witnessed the incident or saw him travelling from Kwaguqa towards Lynville that afternoon to come forward.

Whether any arrests have been made in connection with Radebe's death had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
