“I Felt Free”: SA Boy Receives Bike and Over R1 Million in Video Before Death, Moves Mzansi

Uthmaan, a young South African boy fighting cancer for the third time, captured the hearts of people across the world after a stranger named Lee Hutchinson showed up at his door and changed his life forever.

In the TikTok video, Lee approached Uthmaan's home pretending to be lost and in need of water. What followed was a candid, heartbreaking conversation. Uthmaan told Lee he was not in school because of cancer, that he had already gone through chemotherapy twice, and that he was in the middle of another round of treatment. He also shared that his father had taken his bicycle and never returned it, the one thing that had made him feel free. Uthmaan said quietly.

A world that answered

Lee revealed the visit was not random. He had a small toy bike hidden as a teaser before surprising Uthmaan with a brand new bicycle on the street. The boy's joy was immediate and real. But the story did not end there.

After the video spread across social media, people around the world donated to support Uthmaan. A total of $70,000 (over R1 million) was raised on his behalf. Because Lee could not return in person, he sent a friend to deliver the funds in March 2026, presenting Uthmaan with a box containing the money and telling him,

"This is what the world wanted to give you."

Uthmaan thanked the visitors repeatedly, visibly overwhelmed.

Tragically, the story has a painful end. The charity organisation Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer announced on 31 August that Uthmaan had passed away that weekend. The post read:
