A few days ago, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos stormed a school in Texas and opened fire in the classrooms, killing and leaving others in critical condition.

Ramos had first shot his 66-year-old grandmother and left her in a critical condition before invading the school where all hell broke loose.

Mum had been at his award ceremony

ABC reports that his mother had just been at his awards ceremony a few hours before he was killed and didn't know it would be the last time she would see him.

According to the fourth grader's cousin, Xavier’s mom was at his awards ceremony 1-2 hours prior to the shooting.

Official statistics from the authorities indicate that the current death toll stands at 19 students and two teachers.

"We are starting to learn their stories. We must remember their names and their faces. May we continue sharing stories from the families that wish to be heard right now," ABC News wrote.

Deadliest school shooting in Texas history

The incident which has been characterised as the deadliest school shooting in the history of Texas happened at the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District.

According to eyewitness reports, Ramos entered the school wielding a handgun and a rifle, after which he started shooting indiscriminately.

Law enforcement officers were forced to shoot the youngster dead after trying to stop him but they could not.

As of the time of filing this report, four victims were hospitalised in critical condition and still undergoing treatment, among them a 66-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl.

Two other girls aged nine and 10 were said to be in fair condition and are expected to be discharged soon.

In a related matter, Briefly News also reported another mass school shooting in the US has rocked the country when 19 children and two teachers were gunned down at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday 24 May in Uvalde.

The incident is considered the nation’s worst school shooting in the decade. The gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, began the act of terror after shooting his grandmother, who, according to authorities, survived. After fleeing, Ramos crashed his car near the Robb Elementary School and was killed by police after the mass shooting.
