Idols SA will continue without a live studio audience due to the country's Covid-19 regulations. The singing competition has decided not to allow audience members into the live performances in order to protect them from contracting the coronavirus. Unlike other years, this year's top 16 contestants will battle it out without the live support of their fans and family.
Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Nomsa Philiso, confirmed this when she spoke about this tough but important decision they had to take in order to protect contestants, supporters, presenters and the show's crew.
Philiso expressed that the show is about to reach its peak, which is a stage where viewers start to have their clear favourites. Judges Somizi, Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams have already selected the Season 16 top 16 contestants.
Philiso said Mzansi will still be able to enjoy the show from the comfort of their homes though. Philiso told the Daily Sun:
"While we have had to take the difficult decision not to have audiences at the live shows due to the current environment and in trying to keep our fans and contestants safe, we are excited that our valued viewers can still enjoy this exciting production with us, from a distance, with lots to look forward to as we get closer and closer to the finale."
Idols SA tweeted on Wednesday, 16 September that the "top 16 boys" will be looking for Mzansi's support this coming Sunday. The show will start at 5pm.

The Venda singer stole Mzansi's hearts when he performed the song at his audition for the singing competition. Although he was booted off the show in the second round, he managed to make a name for himself and build his career profile.
Releasing his single on the same day as Cassper Nyovest's album drop was a risky move but it seems to have paid off. The artist trended on Twitter alongside Cassper Nyovest as South Africans enjoyed the beautiful song.
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Vhudie confirmed that there's an album on the way. In an exclusive interview, the musician also dismissed claims that he has signed a contract with any record label.
